さとみさんはカリフオリニア にかぞくにあいに行くつもりです。日本人のおせちを食べておとしだまがあると言っています。さとみさんはアメリカのおんがくのほうが日本のよりがすきと言っています。さとみさんは日本のかしゅの中で こぶくろ がいちばんじょうずだと思います。
Japanese New Years reminds me of an American Thanksgiving. People get together with their family or friends and prepare a special dinner called osechi. I thought that was like the turkey that Americans make. One difference I found is that some Japanese children get otoshidama which is a small envelope. The kids can then take this envelope around and collect money from their family.
yeah, I agree with your analogy between Jpn new years and US thanksgiving. Japanese people really try to go home for the new years and spend their time with family/relatives/grandparents.

Shoko-san also mentioned osechi. She said she goes to her hometown and spends new years with family so it really does sound a lot like our thanksgiving. I think it would be interesting to celebrate both and see which has better food!
ReplyDeleteIt's a little different since children get money, almost like a combination of a birthday and thanksgiving. I didn't realize some children could collect that much though. That's over $1000!
Yes! but of course these kids put the money into their bank account and save!
